The Pope is a fucking moron. I don't understand where they pull these people from. I mean seriously - will he just kill himself?
What I don't understand is how he has the right to talk about anything. Africa is, let's face it, the arsehole of the world that nobody really gives a shit about. Everybody whines about Gaza but nobody gives a shit about Somalia and people being murdered, raped and generally having their Human Rights abused (in no particuar order) in the Sudan doesn't bother most. Ultimately, Jews killing Muslims is the most important thing. Go Palestine! (I think that's fashionable to say now.)
Still, the Pope, for some reason only his fictional deity knows about, holds influence over the Catholic and to a lesser but still significant extent wider Christian community of Africa. They listen to him. So when he spouts bullshit about how condoms "can even increase the problem" of HIV/AIDS, it has a tangible effect doing tangible harms to people (even if they are people nobody in the Western world really gives a fuck about). Dark brown person who's cheating on his wife or fucking a prostitute then goes home and fucks his wife (or other prostitutes) and BANG! They all got the bug and nobody wants to talk about it.
What's that the sound of? Oh yes! The obvious solution! Give him a condom. Yes, he's still cheating on his wife and fucking prostitutes but getting rid of condoms isn't going to solve the problems of marital fidelity and women driven to the desperation of selling their bodies. The Pope's logic - yes, there's a presumption of logic - is that by giving people condoms, you're encouraging this sort of behaviour. Guess what? Either they're not Christian and don't care what you have to say in which case, fuck off. Or, they are Christian or Catholic but not enough to not fuck prostitutes so you're bullshit isn't making any difference to their extramarital sex. However, they might think there's a slightly higher chance of them breaking into the good shit (i.e. heaven) by not wearing a condom. Giving up extramarital sex is hard but not wearing a condom is a lot easier. May as well be a bit Catholic, even if I can't go the whole hog, right?
The Pope is directly responsible for an increase in any the proliferation of HIV/AIDS. No society has managed to get its men to keep their dicks in their pants. Africa is no different. Men like to fuck lots of women and in a society where men dominate, that's more likely to happen. Add to that, the desperation of the population and thus the de facto increase in prostitution then you've got a hotbed of potential HIV/AIDS catching that can go on. Discouraging people from using protection that can stop its spread may encourage people to have sex but the wider problem of death from HIV/AIDS is slightly more pressing.
Essentially, if you think marital fidelity and prostitutes are morally bigger problems than dying then you can side with the Pope. Unfortunately, you should stop having opinions because they're not actually worth anything.
